Mother Deals Intruder Herself Leaves Him Looking Photo

A mother in a quiet residential neighborhood outside Chicago came home to find an unexpected visitor inside her house last week. The man had broken in through a back window and was rifling through drawers when she walked in. Instead of calling for help right away, she decided to confront him on her own.

She grabbed a baseball bat from the closet and ordered the intruder to stay put. When he tried to push past her toward the door, she swung once and caught him across the shoulder. The second swing landed lower, sending him to the floor. She kept him there until police arrived about ten minutes later.

Officers found the man still on the ground, looking dazed and clutching his side. The mother had taken a quick photo with her phone before they got there. In the picture he sat against the wall with a swollen eye and a cut on his lip, staring straight at the camera. She later said she wanted proof of what he looked like in case he tried to claim otherwise.

The intruder, a 34-year-old local man with prior theft charges, was arrested and taken to the hospital for treatment before booking. Detectives said the evidence from the scene and the photo helped the case move quickly. Neighbors who heard about the encounter mostly shook their heads and wondered what they would have done in the same spot.

The mother told reporters she had no special training, just a strong dislike for people who think they can walk into someone else’s home. She added that she hoped the photo would make the rounds enough to discourage anyone else from trying the same thing.
