HOA Demands Man Remove ‘Offensive’ Sticker On His Pickup Truck

A Henderson homeowner says he is being forced to choose between following his neighborhood association’s rules and displaying a political message he believes falls under his right to free expression.

Chris, a resident of the Central Park Estates community near Bermuda Road and Pebble Road, says his dispute with the homeowners association began with decorations displayed on his red pickup truck. The vehicle was regularly seen parked in his driveway with flags attached, but the HOA eventually ordered him to remove them.

According to Chris, the association characterized the flags as a form of signage or advertising rather than simply personal decorations on a vehicle.

The neighborhood’s rules permit homeowners to place one political sign in their front yard during election season. Chris said the HOA objected when his flag remained on the truck after the permitted period ended. He was reportedly warned that failure to comply could lead to legal action involving the association’s attorney.

The dispute then took another turn when Chris replaced the political display with a bumper sticker bearing the phrase “Let’s Go Brandon,” a slogan widely associated with criticism of former President Joe Biden.

Chris argues that the sticker is nothing more than a political statement attached to his personal vehicle.

“They’re treating this like some kind of commercial activity,” Chris said, expressing frustration over the association’s interpretation of the neighborhood rules.

The HOA cited a provision in the Central Park Estates bylaws prohibiting activities considered offensive, objectionable, annoying or disruptive to residents. The association subsequently notified Chris that he could face a $100 penalty if the sticker remained on his truck past the stated deadline. Another $100 fine was reportedly threatened if the violation continued into the following week.

For Chris, the issue has become about more than a sticker.

As a veteran who says he took an oath to serve the country, he believes Americans should have broad freedom to express political opinions, even when those opinions may irritate or offend others.

Rather than risk accumulating fines, Chris has taken an unusual step. He now backs his truck into the driveway and removes the vehicle’s rear hatch, preventing the bumper sticker from being visible.

Chris said he hopes the HOA will reconsider its position and allow him to display the sticker without further penalties.

The homeowner maintains that disagreement should not automatically mean censorship, especially when the message is simply a political opinion displayed on his own vehicle.
