1 Year Old Dead Alleged Child Sexual Abuse Case
Authorities in a suburban area outside Chicago announced the death of a one-year-old girl they say resulted from sexual abuse. Police responded to a home after a relative called 911 on March 31, finding the child unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Investigators quickly focused on the mother’s live-in boyfriend. Court records show he had been alone with the child for several hours that afternoon. An autopsy later listed the cause of death as blunt force trauma combined with internal injuries consistent with sexual assault. The medical examiner ruled the case a homicide.
The boyfriend, 29, was arrested the next day and charged with first-degree murder and predatory criminal sexual assault of a child. Neighbors told reporters they had noticed the couple arguing in recent weeks but never imagined anything this serious. One woman who lived across the street said the little girl had seemed happy whenever she saw her outside.
Child welfare workers confirmed the family had been on their radar after an earlier report of neglect. That case was closed without further action. Local advocates are now asking why more wasn’t done to check on the child’s safety.
The mother has not been charged but remains under investigation for possible failure to protect her daughter. A preliminary hearing is set for later this month.
