Unexpected Note Veterinarian Sent Dog Owner Photo

A dog owner in suburban Chicago got quite the surprise in her inbox one afternoon last week. What she expected was a standard follow-up note from her veterinarian after a routine checkup. Instead, she found a photo of her golden retriever sitting on the exam table, tongue out, with a short message scrawled across the bottom in blue pen.

The picture showed the dog looking relaxed, almost smug, after getting his shots and a quick teeth cleaning. The note underneath read, “He tried to open every cabinet in the back room looking for treats. We had to hide the cookie jar.” It was signed by the vet herself, not a receptionist or assistant.

The owner, who asked not to be named, said she laughed out loud when she saw it. She had dropped her dog off that morning expecting the usual bill and maybe a printed care sheet. Getting a candid shot and a bit of personality from the doctor was not on the list. She shared the email with a few friends, who then passed it along until it started making the rounds on local Facebook groups.

Staff at the clinic later confirmed the photo was taken by one of the techs who had been wrestling with the dog’s sudden interest in their supply closet. The vet added the note before sending it because, she told a colleague, the owner always seemed stressed during visits and could probably use a laugh. No one expected the small gesture to travel as far as it did.

The owner said she plans to print the photo and keep it with the dog’s records at home. The vet’s office, for its part, has started including a quick snapshot with most follow-up emails after that one went viral in their small corner of the internet.
