Man Tears Down Hammer After Making Horrible Discovery Pool Photo
A man in the suburbs outside Dallas was scrolling through old real estate photos of his new home when he noticed something off in one of the shots of the backyard pool. The image, taken months earlier during an open house, showed what looked like a dark shape submerged near the deep end. At first he figured it was a trick of the light or maybe a pool cover. A closer look changed his mind.
He called police the same afternoon. Officers later confirmed the shape matched descriptions from a missing person case that had gone cold the previous fall. Detectives asked the homeowner to stay out of the pool area while they processed the site, but the discovery left him too rattled to wait around.
By evening he was out back with a sledgehammer, swinging at the wooden deck boards that surrounded the water. Neighbors said the noise went on for nearly an hour. When officers returned the next morning they found splintered planks and the man sitting on the grass, still holding the tool. He told them he could not stand the thought of keeping the pool after what he had seen in the picture.
The property owner later said he had bought the house without ever visiting in person, relying instead on the listing photos and a virtual tour. The pool had been a selling point. Now he planned to fill it in completely. Detectives have not released further details on the case they are working, but the man’s reaction has left the quiet street talking for days.
