A 17-year-old boy suspected in a fatal stabbing turned a gun on himself Monday afternoon while standing beside his mother, who had spent hours convincing him to turn himself in. The shooting happened in the driveway of their home just as police arrived to take him into custody.

The teen had been wanted in the death of a 19-year-old man killed during a fight two days earlier. Detectives said the boy and the victim knew each other, and the argument had started over a personal dispute that quickly turned violent. Officers had been searching the area since the body was found, but the suspect had remained hidden until his mother contacted them.

She told investigators she found her son at a relative’s house and pleaded with him to come home and face the charges. She said he finally agreed, and the two were walking out together when he pulled the handgun. One shot was fired before officers could react. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police recovered the weapon and confirmed it belonged to the family. They have not released the mother’s name or said whether she will face any charges. Neighbors described the family as quiet and said they were stunned by what happened.

The case now shifts to the original homicide investigation, which detectives say they are still piecing together with the help of several witnesses.
