Lara Trump’s Choice of Funeral Attire Ignites Social Media Discussion

Lara Trump drew attention during the funeral service for late Sen. Lindsey Graham on Tuesday after appearing in a black dress that sparked discussion across social media.

The Fox News host and former Republican National Committee co-chair arrived at Washington National Cathedral alongside her husband, Eric Trump, to honor the longtime South Carolina senator, who died unexpectedly on July 11 at the age of 71.

For the solemn gathering, Lara wore a black dress featuring elbow-length sleeves and a scoop neckline, pairing the look with a large cross necklace. She was seated in the front row next to Eric Trump, with President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also nearby during the memorial service.

President Trump delivered remarks celebrating Graham’s decades of public service, while a number of prominent political leaders, foreign dignitaries and longtime friends gathered to pay their respects. Among the high-profile attendees were Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. First Lady Melania Trump was not present at the ceremony.

While the funeral centered on remembering Graham’s life and legacy, Lara Trump’s attire quickly became a topic of conversation online after viewers watched the livestream of the invitation-only service.

Some social media users argued that although her outfit followed the traditional black funeral dress code, the neckline was not appropriate for the setting.

One commenter questioned whether the dress was suitable for a memorial service, suggesting it drew unnecessary attention. Another focused on the oversized cross necklace she wore, asking if the accessory was too prominent for the occasion.

A third critic wrote that while they were not generally conservative about fashion, they believed a more understated outfit would have been better suited for a front-row seat at a funeral. The user also criticized her makeup, calling the overall appearance inappropriate for such a solemn event.

Others, however, defended Lara Trump, arguing that criticism over her clothing was excessive. Supporters maintained that she was dressed in black, the traditional color for mourning, and said fashion choices should not overshadow the purpose of the service or Graham’s remembrance.

Eric and Lara Trump appeared to be the only members of President Trump’s children in attendance. The pair, who married in 2014 after several years together, share two children and have frequently accompanied the president during major public events.

Their appearance at Graham’s funeral came just months after the pair traveled with President Trump during his state visit to China, where Lara’s presence generated questions because she does not currently hold a position within the administration.

Although she serves in no official government capacity, Lara Trump remains a prominent figure in Republican politics. She previously served as co-chair of the Republican National Committee and currently hosts “My View with Lara Trump” on Fox News, keeping her in the national spotlight as both a political commentator and member of the Trump family.
