Man Buys Vintage Watch 599 Discovers how Much its Really Worth

A guy in Ohio spotted a vintage watch at a small estate sale back in July and figured $599 was a fair price for something that looked decent on his wrist. He took it home, wore it a couple times, then decided on a whim to get it checked out at a local jeweler. What came back from the appraisal changed everything.

The watch turned out to be a rare 1940s Omega from a limited military contract. Experts who examined the piece said only a few dozen were ever made with that exact dial configuration, and the condition was nearly perfect. One specialist valued it between $28,000 and $35,000 on the current market.

The buyer, who asked to keep his name out of the story, admitted he almost passed on the watch because the case felt heavier than he expected. He told friends he bought it mostly because the strap was in good shape and he needed something for work. When the numbers came in, he said he laughed for a solid minute before calling his wife.

Word spread fast once the jeweler posted photos online. Collectors started reaching out within hours, and one offer reportedly hit $40,000 by the end of the week. The owner still has not decided whether to sell. For now he keeps the watch in a drawer and checks on it every few days, half expecting someone to knock on the door and say there has been a mistake.
