Heres Facebook Picture Got Virginia Woman Arrested Photo

NORFOLK, Va. — A Facebook photo posted late last month turned out to be all the evidence police needed to arrest a 28-year-old woman here on multiple drug charges. The image, which showed her sitting at a kitchen table with what appeared to be several bags of pills and cash spread out in front of her, was shared publicly before she could take it down. Detectives spotted it while scrolling through tips from a neighborhood watch group and quickly matched the background to an apartment they had been watching.

Officers executed a search warrant at the unit on Dec. 18 and recovered a stash that matched the one in the photo. The woman, whose name has not been released pending formal charges, reportedly told investigators she never thought anyone outside her friends list would see the picture. One detective noted that the post stayed up for nearly two days, long enough for several people to screenshot it and forward it along.

Court records indicate the woman had prior arrests for possession, which made the new evidence especially damning. Prosecutors plan to use the image at trial as direct proof of distribution. Neighbors said they were surprised by the arrest but not by the social media slip-up, adding that the woman had been open about her activities online for months.

The case has become a quick reminder for local users that anything posted publicly can be viewed by strangers, including law enforcement. Police here have said they routinely check social media when building cases, especially when tips point them toward a specific account. No other suspects have been named in connection with the search.
